A local man is receiving a distinguished award for his hardwork and dedication.

On Sunday night, 18-year-old Tyler Walters was recognized by the community at the Zanesville Methodist Bible Church for earning the rank of Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America. It is the highest award given by the program.

"It means a lot to me, I've worked through the Cub Scouts and then up into Boy Scouts so it's pretty good," said Recipient Tyler Walters.

"He is a wonderfully deserving individually and I think that we're going to have a wonderful time with Tyler helping to make our country a better place," said his troop leader.

Tyler is the Assistant Scout Master and has been with Troop 501 for seven years.
