A state senator take time away from politics to speak to students at a local school.

Senator Jimmy Stewart spoke to students and took a tour of the Mid-East Career and Technology school's campus. He talked about the importance of education and it's role in making smart voters. He also told students to follow their dreams.

"Remember what your goals are try and take something that your passionate about and make a career out of it," said Senator Stewart. "If you're passionate about it and always remember don't ever let anything get you down."

Senator Stewart said that while government has had to make tough choices when it comes to education funding it's to give districts more choices when it comes to making cuts.

"We're trying to give our local governments and school districts some flexibility on how to deal with those cuts, so they will not be forced to have to make as many layoffs in some cases," said Stewart.

There are also some talks to create a health insurance poll that government employees and teachers would pay into. Stewart said by doing this workers will pay a lower premium and save employers money.
