If you are a veteran or currently serve in the U.S. Armed Forces, you may be eligible for the Ohio Veterans Bonus.
The State Department of Veterans Services said nearly $27 million has been paid so far to more than 33,500 veterans and families, but more than 100,000 soldiers still qualify and could receive up to $1,500.
"I just think it's a way to recognize the veterans during economic times now, a lot of people are having a hard time and it's a way to help them out financially," said Veterans Services Officer Larry Daniels.
To qualify, you must have been an Ohio resident at the time you joined and served more than 90 days active duty in either the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, Iraq Wars. Daniels said he can assist in filling out the forms if you bring the necessary documents to Muskingum County Veteran Services.
"It takes me about 20 minutes to complete the paperwork and then once we get their signature, validate it, and send it, it takes about 13 weeks," he said.
You may qualify for a number of other benefits ranging from health care, compensation for injuries and illnesses, to direct financial assistance. For more information, you can visit www.dvs.ohio.gov
