Honoring the Hazlett Brothers

Two soldiers who served in the Civil War are being commemorated.

The Muskingum County Civil War Association gathered at the Woodlawn Cemetary in Zanesville on Saturday to dedicate gravestones to the Hazlett brothers who died in the Civil War. Theirs had become worn over the years and needed to be replaced.

"We are trying to show honor to them and when we do our reenactments, that's what we do them for because we respect what they did and that's why we like to do it," said Bob Daniels.

Infantry soldiers marched from Woodlawn Avenue to the Cemetery where they reenacted different parts of the Civil War. Daniels said it's important to remember out country's history.

"The Civil War when you start talking about the 150th for the next four years there's going to be a lot going on all around the country about different events that occurred and that's what made this country," he said.

Over 600,000 people died in the Civil War.
