State Grant Helps Muskingum County Court

The Muskingum County Court is receiving a grant through the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

The $44,000 grant will help fund the Probation Department and Hope Court, which is a rehabilitation program that assists offenders with mental health and substance abuse problems.

"The staff of the Hope Court also has counselors that are involved with the individuals, who help with the medications and they work very closely with the court to direct those people into the right area that they need to go instead of placing them into jail," said Director of the Probation Department Alma Tennent.

Tennent said without this grant, they would not be able to run Hope court. She said they are planning to apply for more money from the state.

"They have said that they will offer additional monies to courts that are interested in applying for that so we will be applying for the extra money so we can broaden our program," she said.

On the WHIZ News at 6 on Tuesday, I will take an in-depth look at Hope Court and how it's helping convicts turn their lives around.
