With the state of the economy and high gas prices, local families in need can use your help.
Operation Feed is hosting Riesbeck's Food Parade this Saturday at the Riesbeck's Pick'n Save on Howard Street. The community is encouraged to drop off food donations or purchase five dollar pre-made bags of needed items available inside the store. President of Muskingum Hunger Network, Tom Cover, says the community's support is extremely important.
"Our pantries are getting busier and busier. Of those 15 pantries that we have, somewhere between 300 and 800 people, according to the size of the pantry, come into those pantries every month," said Cover.
The Food Parade will take place from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will also be a food court outside where you can purchase hot dogs, chips and pop. All proceeds will benefit Operation Feed. Cover says you never know when you may be the one in need.
"You never know when our luck can go the other way, and we can be down and out, and we may have to go to a pantry someday and we would surely want someone else to help us," said Cover.
Riesbeck's is donating all the food for the food court, as well as the five dollar pre-made bags, to help this cause.
