Swim Safe 2

In response to the recent drownings in the Muskingum River, The Red-Cross wants to remind families to be safe when around water.

And their message is clear...Red Cross Director of Preparedness, Julie Davis said, families can never be too cautious.

"You can't take a vacation from safety," said Davis. "No matter what time of year it is."

Davis encourages parents to allow their children to swim, but only when a life guard is on duty. She said, always use the buddy system and make sure your children know their boundaries.

"Kids get excited, they think they are invincible, and nothing is going to happen to them," said Davis. "So you have to keep an extra special eye out."

Davis suggests parents use the Arm Length Rule...If your child is in the water, make sure they are no more than an arms length away from you. She said, an accident can happen in a blink of an eye. If you are interested in enrolling your child for swim lessons  call The Red-Cross, at (740) 452-2731.
