A new flag was raised as part of an old Flag Day tradition.

The Zane Trace Apartments planted a new American Flag, Tuesday afternoon, in recognition of the Zanesville Fire department. Property Manager, Linda Sowers, said, the tradition began years ago when the National Church Residence wanted to thank their community fire department for their continued support.

"And we dedicated the flag to them on Flag Day," said Sowers. "Because they are always here when we need them, and we think that's just a good thing for them to do."

Sowers said, the goal of the National Church residence is to give everyone a home. Zanesville's Fire Chief, Craig Stemm, said, being a part of this tradition is an honor.

"Well, that means a lot to all of us at the Fire department," said Stemm. "Having us come out here and raise the flag pole and flag for the first time."

A permanent plaque and photo from the day will be placed in front of the flag.
