If you were driving along the Maysville Pike in South Zanesville Saturday, you may have noticed an ambitious group of youngsters trying to flag you down.

Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 132 gathered outside the Maysville Avenue Sheetz to collect items and send care packages to troops overseas. Items requested varied from chewing gum and candy... to disposable cameras and batteries. Cub Master, Tim Adams said there is no set goal on how much to raise, but knows every little bit helps.

"And I think the troops will definitely appreciate it," said Adams. "I know people who've been over, been back and the items they get they're thankful for."

In addition to helping the troops, Adams said he hopes the boys recognize the sacrifice the men and women serving have made. Scout Gage Newell has been with the troop for about a year and said he just wants to help thank those who serve.

"It's helping our troops out and it's keeping us from danger," said Newell. "It's keeping our freedom with us."

Troop 132 is thankful for any donated items, but would like to request that canned-items have pop-tops because can openers are not always available. Cash donations will assist in shipping costs.

The groups raised $800 dollars which provides enough supplies for around 300 troops. For more information check out http://facebook.com/FreedomWarriorsCarePackages.
