More than 1,000 children are going back to school with new shoes.
Tuesday was distribution day for the Wendy's/WHIZ's Lace Up for Kids campaign. Wendy's Owner Tim Thompson said it takes all year to prepare for this day, but the hard work pays off.
"It amazes me every year the generosity of the local community and the donations that they give," said Thompson. "You can see the results. There's 1,000 happy faces coming in here."
Thompson said parents scheduled appointments for their kids to try on shoes. 13-year-old Kawana Butcher said she wants a new pair of Converse sneakers.
"I'm happy because the community got together and gave kids shoes for school," said Butcher.
Thompson said this is Wendy's biggest fundraiser, and it has grown by at least 700 children since last year.
