Downtown Zanesville will be cooking up a storm this weekend.
It's the 8th Annual Ribfest featuring a variety of vendors and their recipes for the perfect slab of ribs. Chairperson Ernest Bynum Jr. says the event is one of the biggest in downtown and always attracts a large crowd.
"I think what's so unique is that it's a whole community event. It's just not for one part of the community, or the elderly, or the young, or the people in school, it's just for the whole community to come together and find a way to make us a better community as we go forward," said Bynum.
A competition will be held Saturday for the best ribs and Mayor Butch Zwelling will be judging along with several others from the community. And as for vendors, they come from near and far.
"Four or five out of Columbus, our local guys here, Big Dave's, Onion Man, we have a group coming from Florida, Nashport, they come from all over and they come back each year so it must be good for them," said Bynum.
Proceeds will benefit scholarships for students across southeast Ohio. Ribfest will start Friday and will run through Saturday from 4 p.m. until midnight.
