A rollover accident on Interstate 70 sent two people to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
New Concord Fire Chief Brent Gates said it happened around 1:30 PM on I-70 near the New Concord exit. The State Highway Patrol also responded to the call. Gates said a Honda Civic was traveling east when it lost control and rolled into the westbound lanes.
"All the witnesses are telling us that it was hit by a semi, and it knocked them over the hill, and they rolled several times," said Gates.
Gates said authorities have a trailer number, and they are looking into witness reports. The accident delayed traffic for over an hour.
"The traffic was already backed up and stopped, and we shut down the rest of the interstate," said Gates. "The two individuals were still inside the vehicle. We didn't have to use mechanical means to get them out. We were able to open the doors with some pry bars."
The driver and passenger were both taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville. Their injuries are unknown, and the crash is under investigation.
