The community lined the streets of Downtown Zanesville Saturday for the annual Veterans Day Parade.

Vietnam Veteran Bud Johnson has served as Chairman of the parade for 13 years. He said the day serves as an opportunity to educate the youth on U.S. Freedom.

"The freedom that we have in this country are protected and guaranteed by the greatest military force in the world," said Johnson. "You need to take at least one day to honor them or say thank you."

The year's grand marshal float was accompanied by the Military Support Group and the Tri-County Gold Star Mothers. President of the Gold Star Mothers Barb Llyod said the group is available to anyone who has lost a son or daughter in the service and knows first hand what it's like since she lost her son nearly 7 years ago.

"Both of my boys were in the service before 9/11, so we always supported anything that had to do with military," said Lloyd. "To be in the parade is just awesome, people salute you and wave to you, it brings tears to your eyes."
