It's another record-setting year for the Festival of Trees auction in Zanesville.

The Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce raised about $42,000 from bids placed on decorated trees and other incentives.  Chamber of Commerce President Tom Poorman said he's impressed by the community's generosity during difficult economic times.

"You start with a community that's really generous," said Poorman.  "A lot of businesses and individuals are incredibly civic-minded.  With that as your starting point, it's kind of hard to fail."

Poorman said some of this year's favorite items were a Model T wheel made into a wreath and a large tree resembling a woman dressed in clothing from the 1800s.  He said the money generated from the auction will be put to good use.

"One thing we're definitely going to focus on in the coming year, as we did in 2011, is trying to take advantage of the oil and gas development that should occur in this area over the next couple of years," said Poorman.

Poorman said the chamber is also working closely with the Muskingum County Business Incubator to develop new programs for small businesses.
