Sheriff's Office Preparing to Move

The Muskingum County Sheriff's Office is counting down the days until it moves into the Muskingum County East Complex, which currently houses the child support offices.

On Monday, Sheriff Matt Lutz met with the county commissioners, job and family services and Emergency Management Agency Director Bo Keck.  Keck said January 11th will be the last day for the sheriff's office in downtown Zanesville.

"I retired from the sheriff's office, so I understand that it's important to get all of their people back into one building," said Keck.  "The dispatch center is probably going to be the nicest part of this whole move.  It's going to be a state-of-the-art dispatch center, much better than what they've had for years downtown."

Keck said the entire sheriff's office except for Muskingum County Jail employees will be together for the first time in over a decade.  The dispatch center will have a new phone system, flat screen televisions and space to hold meetings.  Keck said Sheriff Lutz did not have to ask the commissioners to help fund the $350,000 project.

"We understand how tough it is with the economy, and we know that the commissioners don't have extra money laying around," said Keck.  "This was talked about from day one in this move is how can we fund this without using county dollars, and we came up with using wireless 9-1-1 money and some of the sheriff's grant money."

The sheriff's office will hold two open houses - one on January 20th from 2 to 4 PM for county employees and another on January 22nd from 1 to 4 PM for the general public.
