The Associated Press is reporting a 38-year-old woman, who had recently moved from Crooksville. Ohio to Laredo, Texas killed herself, after turning the gun on her two children, following a seven-hour standoff at a government Social Services office.
Police identify the woman as Rachelle Grimmer.
The children, 10-year-old son, Timothy and 12-year-old daughter, Ramie were in critical condition Tuesday, according to Laredo Police Investigator Joe Baeza.
The standoff began around 5 p.m. Monday afternoon. Officials say the woman was speaking with two employess when she pulled a gun out and said she wanted to speak to a supervisor. When the supervisor arrived, he convinced her to let the employees go in exchange for himself. Twenty-five other people were moved to safety.
Reports indicate that Police investigators stayed on the phone with the woman throughout the evening, but she kept hanging up. She let the supervisor go unharmed, but stayed inside the office with her children. After hanging up the the phone around 11:45, police heard three gunshots, and a SWAT Team entered the building, where they found her body along with her two wounded children.
It is unclear what specifically caused Monday's standoff, but the woman told negotiators about complaints she had concerning state and federal government
The children were described as being "very critical" and unconscious when they were taken from the scene.
