Icy roadways were the cause of a fatal accident.

According to the Lancaster Post of the State Highway Patrol a one vehicle fatal crash happened Saturday evening at about 5:30 on US 22 just west of West Rushville Road in Richland Township of Fairfield County.

57 year-old Kathy Williams of Lancaster was traveling westbound on US 22 with her passenger, 82-year-old Regina Kessler, when Williams lost control on an icy bridge. The vehicle traveled off the side of the road, struck a bridge wall and then overturned.

Kessler who was ejected from the vehicle was transported to Fairfield Medical Center and was later flown by MedFlight to Grant Hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries.

Williams was treated and released at the scene with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. The Highway Patrol reminds all motorists to use extreme caution and pay close attention to bridges and overpasses- as they often are the first to freeze.
