The Muskingum Family "Y" is celebrating the accomplishments of exemplary women in our area.
Now through February 19th nominations will be accepted for the 24th annual Women of Achievement Awards. YMCA Executive Director Craig Miracle said the honorees should be role models in the community dedicated to the empowerment of women and cultural diversity.
"I don't think it's about necessarily winning," said Miracle. "It's more about the recognition. Many of the ladies will tell you that they don't deserve it, but they do. I think it's about the fact that so many people look up to these ladies and what they've been able to aspire to and achieve, so it's a great night, not only for the ladies, but for their families and friends to come and attend the event."
Recipients in seven categories will be recognized at a ceremony this spring. Miracle said the event compliments Women's History Month in March.
"I would encourage people to nominate because there are a lot of folks out there who are very deserving that maybe people think they've already received the honor, but in fact they haven't," said Miracle. "I think these people need to be recognized for what they've done to support this community."
Applications can be picked up at the YMCA at Littick Hall on the Ohio University Zanesville/Zane State Campus. The YMCA is also getting ready to kick off its Strong Kids Campaign with a fundraiser at Honeybaked Ham on February 15th.
