Reports of purse snatching are increasing in Zanesville.

Zanesville Police Chief Eric Lambes said the most recent incidents have occurred at the Pick n' Save on Howard Street and Krogers on Maple Avenue.

"We're having a little bit of a spike on purse snatching, we don't see these all the time but there's been a few of them that have been in real close session which makes us wonder if they may be related, that we're not sure of at this time but we're certainly looking at that possibility," said Lambes.

Lambes said recent snatchings have taken place while the victims were walking between the store and their vehicles. Steps women can take to prevent theft include keeping their purse close- but more importantly beware of your surroundings.

"If they walk out of the store and they're alone, they don't see anyone else walking out of the store, it's alright to wait a couple minutes until someone else is done shopping and kind of enter the parking lot together," said Lambes.

Lambes said if you become a victim or a witness of any crime it's best if you're able to give police a clear description of the suspect, type of vehicle they were driving and a license plate number.
