The Southeast Ohio 2-1-1 call center has seen an increase in phone calls over the last month.

January saw over 400 more calls from the previous month from Muskingum county alone.

Call center manager Audrey Foster said a third of the total number of calls were for financial counseling and tax preparation.

"One of the things I'd like to stress for the tax calls is that they call just during office hours between 8 o'clock in the morning and 4:30 p.m.," said Foster.  "We do our 2-1-1 call center services 24 hours, but the people who set up those appointments are just here during the day."

In addition to tax and financial referrals, the call center sees nearly a quarter of its callers needing meal assistance.

The 2-1-1 call center provides information and referral services for everything from government services to volunteer opportunities.

"We see a lot more of the elderly folks looking for an emergency food pantry, and here at 2-1-1 we do all of the processing for that, so if you want to be apart of that, or assigned to a food pantry in Muskingum county, you would need to dial 2-1-1 because we're that administrative part of that," added Foster.
