A congressman running for re-election is looking for votes in Muskingum County.

Republican Bill Johnson has served in the United States Congress since 2010, representing the 6th District. When this year's census numbers led to redistricting of Ohio, part of Muskingum County was included in that district.

"I didn't go to Washington to become a member of a member of the club," said Rep. Johnson. "I'm not a career politician. I'm a farm boy born and raised on the farm, served 26 years in the United States Airforce and have been a small business owner."

Johnson said the Marcellus and Utica Shale will become more important to our area and will make sure that there is some regulation in place.

"When it comes to regulatory action around fracking and the activities associated with the shale drilling industry," said Johnson. "We need to make common sense regulatory actions based on science and fact, not on political rhetoric when it concerns public safety and public health. We need to make sure we're doing it right."

Johnson said that jobs and the growth of small business will also be in focus if re-elected.
