Rash of Robberies Keeping Cops Busy

Three armed robberies in the last five days is keeping local law enforcement officers busy.

On February 9th, the Papa Johns on Maple Avenue was hit by an armed robber.  On February 12th, another armed robbery happened at the Tumbleweed restaurant on Monroe Street, and last night a woman walked into a Duncan falls BP claiming she had a pipe bomb, and demanded money.

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said these are not the acts of professional criminals, but rather, desperate people.

"I think with the economy the way it is, people will get desperate at desperate times and sometimes they do desperate things," said Lutz.

Sheriff Lutz has some safety advice when its comes to the incidents of past couple of weeks.

"Just be cognoscente of your surroundings," he added.  "If somebody comes into the store or the restaurant and they're milling around, and acting suspicious, call us, we'll come out and check them out and make sure what's going on with them, but just be familiar with what people look like, what people are wearing. The more descriptions we can ge when something like this happens, the better it is for us to try to catch them"

According to Lutz, two suspects were arrested last night in connection with the Duncan Falls B-P incident.

Their names will not be released until formal charges are filed.
