Senator Rob Portman was in Zanesville Saturday for a Republican Party fundraiser.
Portman joined his fellow Republican politicians at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner at Prophets Park. The Cincinnati native said he hopes voters understand the importance of casting a ballot in this election.
"Oho is going to be in the middle of it all this year, our primary is going to be important, which is coming up a week from Tuesday, but then the general election once again is really important here in Ohio, If you think about it, two of the last three Presidential elections were decided by Ohio," said Portman.
Portman said the price of gas is a hot topic right now, and he spent the past few days talking to people in eastern Ohio about fracking and shale drilling.
"I'm convinced it's good for the area, and it's going to bring a lot more jobs that its already brought, and it's something that the federal government has to encourage rather than discourage, i'm very concerned about some of the federal rules and regulations that might make it harder to access the shale," added Portman.
Representative Pat Tiberi of Ohio's 12th district was also in attendance Saturday.
