Animal Shelter Population Low

Puppy and kitten season is right around the corner, and soon some of the empty kennels in the Animal Shelter will be filled.

Executive Director Larry Hostetler of the Animal Shelter in Muskingum County said the number of animals at the shelter is down, and that is giving shelter officials a chance to prepare for the upcoming spring.

"Spring is coming up, and we'll see a lot of puppies and kittens. So usually when were slow like this, when we're low on population, we'll take time to do some spring cleaning, and get things ready for when we're really going to be hit with puppies and kittens," said Hostetler.

Hostetler said pet owners need to take the time to get their pets spayed or neutered in order to prevent over-population in the shelter.

"That's the only way we're going to end this problem of the over population in our county, is for people to be responsible, and and get their pets spayed or neutered, and help us put an end to this," added Hostetler.
