The Zanesville City School District is once again dealing with student athletes caught at underage drinking parties. The latest episodes happened this past weekend.
Zanesville City Schools Director of Student Services Kevin Appleman says seven male and three female student athletes have been suspended from their sports for 20 to 50 percent of their games. Appleman says according to the district's extracurricular code of conduct, first time offenders get 20 percent suspensions, and if you host the party you get a 50 percent season suspension. Students must also complete a drug and alcohol counseling program.
He says the students reportedly attended parties where alcohol was consumed on Friday and Saturday night. The sports involved included track, wrestling, volleyball, soccer, basketball and golf.
An anonymous parent reported the parties and the school district investigated the allegations.
None of the student athletes in this case are repeat offenders.
