Bowlers are lacing up their shoes in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters.
Maysville All Star Lanes is hosting the Muskingum County Bowl for Kids Sake, which generates about 40% of the organization's operating budget. Mollie Crooks of Big Brothers Big Sisters said the event raised $92,000 last year.
"There's a variety of ways that people get involved," said Crooks. "The bowling here today is the celebration of their efforts. We had folks that did raffle ticket sales, they sold our paper bowling pins, they asked friends and family to support them and some people wrote their own check. We did have a lot of support from different companies and also our area schools."
Second grade students Savannah Tinney and Amya Yockey were happy to spend the day away from school.
"You don't have to do homework," said Tinney. "Today is our spelling test and I don't think we have to do it," said Yockey.
All of the money is spent locally and helps match children with trained mentors. Bowl for Kids Sake continues through Sunday.
