"HeartChase" Event To Be Held In Downtown Zanesville

The American Heart Association's newest downtown race is coming to Zanesville next week.

The "HeartChase" event replaces the traditional heart-walk, and is being held in over 50 cities nation-wide.

Event chairman, Dan Hartman said the program offers a creative way for people to explore the "Y-Bridge" city while learning about heart-healthy choices.

"The teams will be given their starting points-- one of ten venues within Downtown Zanesville. At each of those venues, they will find volunteers, giving them healthy trivia questions that they have to answer," Hartman Explained.  "Upon answering those, they go into a heart healthy activity-- a one minute, "Minute to Win it" activity."

Teams then scan special QR codes on their smart phones to keep track of the points, and for directions to their next venue.

Competing teams are eligible to win prizes, including Fieldhouse memberships, gift certificates, and pedometers.

Hartman, who recently had open heart surgery, said he knows first-hand the importance of heart health.

"Everything that keeps you healthy is important, but to the American Heart Association, it's the things that you do in your life that keep your heart healthy and keeps the rest of you going," said Hartman.

The event is sponsored by Genesis Healthcare System, and registration starts at noon Saturday April 21st at the Muskingum County Welcome Center.
