A new warning for seniors about a possible scam involving the Meals on Wheels program at the Muskingum County Center for Seniors.
On Friday, Sheriff Matt Lutz received a report that a recipient of the meal delivery program in the Duncan Falls area was approached by a person asking for money for the operation.
According to Debi Smith, of the center for seniors, this person was not affiliated with the the Center for Seniors, and said the center does not solicit money for the Meals on Wheels program in this fashion.
"No one would ever approach a senior especially late in the evening, because our hours are daytime hours. And when we do go to a seniors home, we are identified by a badge," said Smith.
In addition Smith said those delivering meals drive a county vehicle with identification on the side.
"We will drive a county car, there's a county sticker on the side of the automobile, and all of the seniors get to know their drivers very well and look forward to seeing them everyday," added Smith.
If you are approached by anyone asking for donations for this program, you are asked to contact police immediately.
