Volunteers Honored with Banquet and Awards

Genesis Healthcare System honored its volunteers with a banquet and awards ceremony Thursday evening.

All week long as part of National Volunteer Week, Genesis has been honoring those who have donated their time in a variety of capacities.

The president of Genesis Volunteers Bill Porter said these people are an integral part of raising funds.

"We have over 500 volunteers, that volunteered over 60,000 hours last year, which equated to approximately 1.2 million dollars," said Porter

Many of those volunteers received awards Thursday evening at the North Terrace Church of Christ.

Director of Genesis Volunteers Paul McClelland said giving back to those who give makes those who volunteer feel special.

"It's always a very special evening, it's a very special time. the volunteers I think appreciate the opportunity to get together as a large group, and an opportunity to celebrate everything that they've achieved over the year," said McClelland.

Among those receiving awards is a woman with 45 years of volunteer service.
