Members of the healthcare field are receiving special recognition this week...
Monday marks the beginning of National Nurses Week. The Health Department's Director of Nursing Carol Howdyshell said there are a variety of jobs within the nursing field.
"We have, what we call, "public health nurses". So there is a huge diversity in knowledge and skill mix that we have. It's the best of nursing in my opinion, here at the health department," said Howdyshell.
The Health Department offers a variety of services through its clinics, and off-site as well. Howdyshell said it takes special people to work in healthcare.
"You have to be quick thinkers, you have to be critical thinkers, in some ways, you could be maybe the eyes and the hands of the physician as you communicate back and forth, as well as the patient. Sometimes if they can't communicate what they are feeling or seeing, you can be that voice for them which is absolutely vital."
National Nurses Week ends on May 12th, the birthday of the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale.
