Muskingum County Drug Bust

Muskingum County authorities announce a traffic stop resulted in several drug arrests.

Back in April, the State Highway Patrol in Preble County stopped a mini van for speeding, and discovered 20 pounds of marijuana - that was headed to a Muskingum County residence.

"The officer smells burnt marijuana inside the vehicle, which basically gives him probable cause to search that vehicle. Then after the search, he discovers about 20 pounds of what we call hydroponic marijuana," said Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz.

Lutz said after an investigation, the drug unit made its move at a home in the 300-block of Livingston Avenue in Zanesville.

"At that point, we got a search warrant to go into the house legally, and at that point, pursuant to the search warrant, we were able to recover just right around 100 thousand dollars of cash."

Five people were taken into custody, and one person remains on the loose. A Muskingum County Grand Jury has indicted all six people in connection. 29-year old Jonathan Royster and 26-year-old Andrew McGivney, both from the Los Angeles, California area. They face trafficking in marijuana and engaging in corrupt activity charges.

The other four suspects, 30-year-old Todd Harris and 29-year-old Bethany Harris, Jeffrey Jones, and Daniel Johnson all of Zanesville, were charged. Johnson is still missing and authorities are continuing the search to take him into custody. Anyone with information is asked to call the Muskngum County Sheriff's Office.
