It's time to set up the fire pit and get ready to dig into another Mother's Day dinner at the Washington Township Firehouse.
The department will host their Mother's Day barbecue dinner at the firehouse this Sunday. It's the 43rd year for this event that looks to serve up 1,200 birds along with homemade pies, cookies and other treats, donated by community members.
"I's very important the support of the citizens that come out and buy the dinners, not only now but the rest of the year. They've always been great at supporting our fire levies, so we're very pleased about the support we have in our township," said Fire Chief Gene Hanning.
This year they'll raffle off an Ohio State afghan and a tanned deer hide. Smokey the Bear also plans to make an appearance to stress the importance of fire safety.
"I don't know if Smokey like chicken or not but we'll find out," joked Hanning.
The fire department starts the meals at 11a.m. Sunday morning rain or shine. The cost is $9.00. Take out is available and they'll do some home delivery. Money raised goes to support the Washington Township Fire Department.
