Zanesville police say they are continuing to investigate a shooting that took place in the one thousand block of Ohio street.
Detective Sergeant Ric Roush says around 10:30 last night officers responded to a call that several shots were fired. Roush says officers found an 18-year-old zanesville male with a gunshot wound to his neck. The victim, who is identified as Marques Parker, was taken to Good Samaritan hospital and then transfered to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. Friends of the victim say he has a strong will, and they're confident he will make it through the injuries.
"He's doing good, he's a fighter, he's pulling through. He's a champ. We love him." said close friend, Kalya Mayle.
Mayle says there have been several shootings in the Ohio street area in the past year, and she's concerned not only about the safety of the children in the area, but the safety of everyone. Friends and witnesses say stains on the pavement and a hole in a utility pole are all that remain from last night's incident, but it still hits too close to home.
"The violence is just getting ridiculous." explained Mayle. "We've had so many friends killed over just nothing, over pointless things, this is lives. We've got kids running around here, anything could happen."
Detective Roush says several individuals have been interviewed by investigators, but no suspects or suspect description can be given at this time. Anyone with information is encouraged to call (740) 455-0712 or (740) 455-0700.
