Vietnam Memorial Wall Coming to The Area

A piece of American history is coming through Southeastern Ohio Memorial Day weekend.

The Vietnam Memorial Wall will start in Zanesville at the VFW on Moxahala Avenue, and then will be accompanied by a police escort and more than 1,500 motorcyclists into McConnelsville where the wall will be displayed.

John Christy of the Malta VFW said he would like to see the public line up on State Route 60 as the wall travels to Morgan County in support of their fallen heroes.

"These are the true heroes. I spent time in Vietnam, and I gave some, but these boys gave it all, these men and women, and I would like to see as much respect on Route 60 as we could possibly have," said Christy.

"We have tremendous volunteers that want to work, and donations that are monetary have been outstanding, and everybody's really into it," added Tony Janes, of McConnelsville American Legion Post 24.

Bill Ellis of American Legion Post 1058 in Zanesville said police will be blocking off some sections of Putnam Avenue, in order to bring the wall in for display and in preparation to send the wall down state Route 60.

"The wall itself will be coming in on Putnam Avenue, off the Sixth Street bridge, and the city is going to block off a couple of blocks, where they can park the wall and some of their vehicles involved," said Ellis.

The wall will be on display in McConnelsville from May 23rd - 28th.
