Authorities arrested a total of eight people at two drug busts in Zanesville.
It happened around 5:30 p.m. at 170 1/2 Brighton Boulevard and 335 Bailey Street. Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz said the city and county joint task force executed search warrants at both locations. He said three males and one female were taken into custody at the bust on Brighton Boulevard. Four males were arrested at the Bailey Street location.
"Our drug unit is very active in the city," said Lutz. "Since we combined with the Zanesville Police Department, they've been very active in pursuing drug traffic in both the city and the county. Usually these investigations start with information that we gain from the public, informants or patrol deputies or officers that see things going on."
Lutz said four to five ounces of crack cocaine, three handguns and a large sum of cash were recovered from the home on Brighton Boulevard. Police found a loaded handgun, body armor and an unspecified amount of drugs inside the Bailey Street home. Zanesville Police Department Captain Tony Coury said his team is doing the best it can to combat the ongoing drug problem in Zanesville.
"We can just keep coming over here and keep working it," said Coury. "Our drug unit has been very good about finding the drugs over here and locating the problem areas and houses. We need people in this community to continue to call us."
The cases will be presented to Muskingum County Prosecutor Mike Haddox.
