Victim of Motorcycle Crash Laid to Rest

More than 130 motorcyclists joined their fallen friend on his final journey.

According to the South Zanesville Police Department, 48-year-old Dwight Reynolds of Chandlersville was killed on Friday when a truck collided with his motorcycle that was part of a funeral procession on Maysville Pike.  Fellow bikers lined Blue Avenue in front of Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home to say goodbye.  Russell Brooks of American Bikers Aimed Toward Education said he has known the victim's wife since elementary school.

"He was a hardworking American guy," said Brooks.  "He worked in the construction business and was injured a few years ago by a crane, but he recovered from that and went back to work.  He and his wife were just what you would call true American people."

Brooks said his organization campaigns for motorcycle rider education and related safety programs.  He said he hopes this accident will serve as a reminder to share the road with motorcyclists.

"Law enforcement does a great job," said Brooks.  "I'm a retired law enforcement officer myself, and they can only do so much.  It comes back to individual responsibility and awareness of paying attention.  We have a saying to look twice and save a life."

Police said the driver of the truck is identified as 74-year-old John Craven of Zanesville.  He was also transported to the hospital for treatment.  The crash remains under investigation.
