Annual Parade Marches on In Thornville

The July 4th parade marched on in the village of Thornville Wednesday.

Hundreds of people lined the parade route Wednesday morning.

The parade featured numerous floats from cheerleaders, area businesses and music from the Sheridan High School Marching Band.

Perry County Chamber of Commerce President John Ulmer served as the emcee for the parade and said it's been a long-time tradition in the community.

"The local veterans and the American Legion and everything have been very supportive from the patriotic approach to it and theme to it and that's real what it's all about here today on the 4th of July,"

Power was restored to the village late Tuesday night.

Ulmer said there was a concern that the parade wouldn't happen.

"It's been a no-doubter all along, we were going to have this parade with or without electric because people are here for it, the units are here for it, and everything, so I guess that's a unique thing for 2012 for us," added Ulmer.

The day's festivities were capped off with the annual Thorn Dunker basketball contest.
