The Zanesville Police Department, the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office and the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol targeted an area on Interstate 70 between two music festivals in the area on Thursday and Friday of last week. 157 traffic stops were made.
"We did have six ovi-related arrests, from impaired drivers. We did end up seizing the detail... End up seizing 1,400 dollars in
cash. We had two felony drug charges and five misdemeanor drug charges," said Lt. Stephen Rine of the State Highway Patrol.
Lt. Rine says there were also 10 DUS or driving under suspensions. Rine says the point of the traffic detail is to ensure public safety.
"That's the primary focus behind everything, is to take illegal narcotics, contraband, anything else off the street, find the impaired driver, and we also are enforcing traffic law. Speed is still our number one cause in this county for traffic fatalities."
No injuries were reported during the blitz.
