ZMCB Ends Season on a High Note

A little rain didn't keep the Zanesville Memorial Concert Band from ending its season on a high note.

Hundreds filled the Zanesville High School Cafetorium for the last of the six concert summer series.

Band Director Jeff Rocquemore said just like last year, the weather was in question for this evenings concert and picnic but he was determined not to let lightning strike twice.

"We've got some neat stuff, and some things that the audience will really enjoy. We're doing a Broadway medley of songs from 'Les Miserables' the movie is coming out soon so we thought we'd bring that out and remind everybody that the movie is coming along, and some popular things like Leroy Anderson's 'Blue Tango' and those types of things," said Rocquemore.

Tonight's concert featured Jim Swearingen, an internationally renown composer and conductor.

Ironically Swearingen was rained out of the same concert last year but said he's happy to return to Zanesville.

"When friends call you up, you always feel the need to want to respond to that and I'm flattered and excited to be over here in this part of the state, so I can conduct some of my music and get to hear them play some of the great pieces that they're going to be playing," said Swearingen.

Members of Cub Scout Group 166 were also in attendance to raise the colors during the national anthem.
