Volunteers from Eastside Community Ministry met at Zanesville Middle School Tuesday to pack book bags with supplies donated through the "Stuff the Bus" program. Around 50 volunteers in two shifts helped stuff supplies for 753 students.
"We got done in just a little over an hour and we allowed two hours. Our packers, they're returning from other years so they know what they're doing and it really goes pretty smoothly," said Co-Chair Betsy Thomas.
All the items were either donated or purchased from money given to the cause. The ministry worked directly with schools and teachers to determine which items were most needed.
"It works really well with the schools in fact they've been very cooperative about putting their list up early for us. I had most of the school supply lists out into my computer by the end of June," said Thomas.
Eastside will pass out the backpacks Thursday morning from 8:30 to 11 at the middle school.
