Thursday evening storms created a headache for one local homeowner.

Lightning struck a home at 3695 Dillon Falls Road just before 6:30 p.m., causing the attic of the home to catch fire. The family was home when it happened, but managed to escape safely before crews arrived.

Falls Township Fire Chief Mark Brown says it took about 45 minutes to extinguish the flames. Chief Brown says it's not uncommon for a storm to be the cause of a fire. The amount of damage is unknown at this time, but Brown says it is not a total loss. National Trail Fire Department also responded to the fire, and Dillon Falls Road was down to one lane of traffic while firefighters battled the blaze.
