Two Seriously Injured in Motorcycle Crash

Two people were seriously injured following a motorcycle accident Saturday afternoon in Washington Township.

The State Highway Patrol said just before 3 p.m. a motorcycle carrying 35-year-old Scott Helms and his wife, 40-year-old Michelle Helms of Reynoldsburg, was traveling northbound on State Route 666, when it slammed into a car occupied by 30-year-old Gary Smith of Newark and 38-year old Chris Sheridan of Heath.

Sergeant Chuck Merryman said the car was pulling out of a private driveway when the crash happened.

"At this point, it looks like they did not see the motorcycle, They pulled from a private drive and the motorcyclist laid the bike down and slid into the vehicle," said Merryman.

Merryman said both Scott and Michelle Helms were seriously injured.

They were rushed to Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital and neither of them were wearing helmets.

The people inside the car were not injured.

The north and southbound lanes of State Route 666 were closed during the investigation.

No citations have been issued at this time.
