Delinquent Child Support Round-Up

Delinquent Child Support Round-Up

A partnership between the Muskingum County Job and Family Services and the Sheriff's Office is helping to round up those who owe child support.

48 parents were involved in the two-day operation which affected 93 children in Muskingum County.

18 people were found in compliance with their child support cases.

11 bench warrants were issued for those who failed to appear in court and two people were immediately sent to jail following their court appearance.

"This is a really a partnership event we have and typically the Court and the Sheriff's Department and the Child Support Agency are involved in this jointly. Obviously, the Court conducts the hearings, the Sheriff's Department serves the papers and serves the folks who get bench warrants because they don't do what they're supposed to do," said Vince Durant, the Deputy Director of Job and Family Services' Child Support Division.

The operation collected over $16,000 of delinquent child support and Durant said several more people will need to be picked up over the next several days.

Sheriff Matt Lutz said he admires the collaboration between departments.

"There's always been great collaboration here, and whatever we can do to make this process better and obviously we do a lot of the child I.D. cards and go to a lot of functions where we'll try to help the kids of this county. So anything we can do to help, we're always there to do that," said Lutz.
