Zanesville Fire investigators try to determine the cause of a morning house fire on Mead Street.

The fire reported around 9:30a.m. at 323 Mead Street is being labeled suspicious by investigators. Assistant Chief Eric Waltemire said that the two story home was vacant at the time of the fire and had no working utilities. It's unknown if anyone was occupying the home illegally.

"It's hard to tell. There's debris the house, so there could have been people in and out of the house," said Assistant Fire Chief Eric Waltemire.

Officials said the fire began in the basement area on the south side of the structure and was under control within ten minutes. Investigators will now take over.

"Basically trying to determine the cause of the fire was, see if we can make a cause and determine and if there's any evidence if it's arson."

No injuries were reported. We'll bring you more as it becomes available.
