The Muskingum County Center for Seniors is partnering with local and state agencies to keep the elderly safe on the road.
The center hosted its first ever "Senior Safety Day" with guest speakers from the local and state law enforcement and Auto Club AAA Ohio.
Adult Traffic Safety Manager, Mary Lou Gallimore said the auto club spent the day working with seniors to check visibility in and around their car while driving.
"We have a lot of people who report that they can't see over the hood of their car and after we do the CarFit, then they can," said Gallimore. "They're just very impressed with that and we all are also because that helps them to see better as they drive and things."
Seniors had a chance to test their reaction times on an electronic pedal set up inside the center.
Gallimore said the slower the reaction time, the more space seniors need to leave between the car in front of them.
"We check to see if your reaction time might be slow," added Gallimore. "If it is, it's something to bear in mind between you and the car in front of you."
