The 2012 Candidates Forum was held at the John McIntire Library in Zanesville Sunday.
The 9th District of the Ohio State Board of Education includes voters from thirteen counties, including Muskingum County. Sunday afternoon the three candidates fighting for the seat had an opportunity to share their platform with the public.
"We've got to provide information and good training to them [the students] so we don't teach to the test, we teach to the child." said candidate Larry Good.
"I think it's important to work with the general assembly and the governor's office to ensure that we have a budget in place that focuses on our children and focuses on implementing a system of funding that's constitutional." explained candidate Stephanie Dodd.
"It's the system itself that needs to be reformed." said candidate Phillip Gerth. "We need to quit yelling at teachers and ask tough questions to the system that forces them to produce more than they can reasonably do. Teachers need to be able to teach, they shouldn't be treated like assembly line workers."
