A run, walk and bake sale event was held at Zane Landing Park in Zanesville Saturday to benefit 32-year-old Caseyne Sanford in her battle with cancer. A few months ago Caseyne was diagnosed with Sarcomatoid Carcinoma, a rare cancer for a woman her age. The cancer caused a large, painful tumor to form on her right arm. Friends hope the benefit will alleviate every day costs for Caseyne.
"She does have insurance but she still has to pay her deductable, and has to pay al the deductables for those." said Event Coordinator Anitta Jones. "House bills for being off of work, and food, and electric, rent, stuff like that. When you're off work it just kind of gets the better of you. This way she'll be able to sit back and worry about herself, heal up and take time for herself." added Susan Deckard, friend. "Not worry about how she's going to pay the gas bill this month."
Despite battling cancer, Jones says Caseyne has remained strong, and her battle may soon come to an end.
"She had another PET scan done right before her last chemotherapy treatment and her doctor came in in tears and said that he has never seen anyone recover this miraculously and that her tumor has gone down from 14 cm to 5 cm, and they're going to do radiation and try to operate to get the tumor out, so she's having a miraculous recovery." explained Jones.
A second event for Caseyne was hosted at the Blue Front Cafe on Linden avenue in Zanesville. Jones says that event will likely run until midnight or later.
