Republican Todd Sands has been elected as a Muskingum County Commissioner, winning by a large margin over Democrat John Bates and Independent Steve Strauss.

Sands received 18,877 votes, compared to 11,922 for Bates and 3,993 for Strauss.  Sands will replace Strauss as a Muskingum County Commissioner.

Sands said he's grateful for his family, friends and other supporters that helped him win the race.  He said it's a surreal moment that hasn't sunk in quite yet.

"I want to work with the other two commissioners," said Sands.  "This is a place where we work together.  This isn't about me.  This is about the county.  I want to work with them and try to figure out the problems in the area."
