ZMCHD Pleased With Passing Levy

The Zanesville Muskingum County Health Department one mill, ten year levy was a success in Tuesday's election.

The funds the levy will generate will help pay the cost of many critical local programs. With funding sources decreasing for many organizations, health commissioner Corey Hamilton says the levy is vital.

"We struggle with trying to apply for and receive grant funds, and that's more and more competitive." explained Hamilton. "We're competing with organizations all over the united states for small amounts of funding to do the services that we want to do, so it's just critical for us to have good local support "

The levy supports a broad range of services. The renewal passed by over 8500 votes, and Hamilton says that speaks volumes about the community.

"Sometimes we aren't really certain how we're coming off in the public, and whether or not what we do is well received and a desired service here so it's really great to know that we have a broad base of support." she added.

Hamilton is also pleased to announce the Muskingum County Community Health Improvement Plan will be unveiled next week. In the works for two years, the plan is a widespread community partnership that will look at community health issues and solutions.
