Shoppers in Zanesville had their chance to catch holiday bargains before Black Friday at the Colony Square Mall Sunday evening.
The Festival of Giving not only kicks off holiday shopping with great deals, but contributes to local charities.
"We have a $5000 pot up for grabs, and eight local charities kind of competing for that." explained mall marketing manager Kevin Pinson. "Shoppers will come out and take advantage of the bargains then bring their receipts to the check-in station here. For every dollar they spend they can contribute a point to their local charity. At the end of the night we'll total up the points and divide that $5000 based on the points."
Along with helping local charities, those who took the time to tally up their spending totals were also eligible for door prizes.
"I think it's important to be involved in charities all times of the year, but we've got people out here who are Christmas shopping anyway, this is a great way to support charities, and it doesn't cost you anything extra." said Pinson.
Benefiting charities included Christ's Table, Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Zanesville, Catholic Social Services, Muskingum Valley Y, the Salvation Army, Eastside Community Ministries and the Alfred S. Carr Center.
